The 2012 International Human Rights Film Award goes to THE LADY
Luc Besson’s new movie THE LADY (produced by Left Bank’s Andy Harries) has been awarded the “International Human Rights Film Award” 2012 by Amnesty International, Cinema for Peace and the Human Rights Film Network.
This award honours human rights defenders portrayed in extraordinary documentary or feature films that promote human rights or expose the abuse thereof to a global audience. The award will be presented at the Cinema for Peace Gala in Berlin on 13 February 2012.
The French-Anglo co-production is a study of long-imprisoned Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, played by Michelle Yeoh. The film tells the story of Burma’s democracy movement and the woman at the centre of it, it’s inspiration and hope. Burma’s desperate struggle still goes on today and both “The Lady”, as she is popularly known and the country still refuse to give up their goal.
