We are pleased to confirm that Left Bank’s multi-award winning sketch show Cardinal Burns is to return for a second series. The new series will move from youth-orientated digital channel E4 to the network’s flagship station, Channel 4.

The broadcaster said: “Sketch shows have been a mainstay of British TV comedy, well for just about forever. But despite the longevity and familiarity of the genre, every now and again, a sketch show comes along that manages to feel fresh, different and – crucially – funny, all at the same time – Cardinal Burns was that show, with their roll call of brilliantly conceived characters and finely-honed comic writing.”

Starring and written by Seb Cardinal and Dustin Demri-Burns, the first six-part series was broadcast in May and June last year. The comedy developed a cult following and has won several awards, as well as a BAFTA Television nomination.

Cardinal and Demri-Burns say: “We’re delighted to be given a second series – the response to the first series was slightly overwhelming. The fact that the series has moved to Channel 4 is just amazing and we’re thrilled to be collaborating with Brian Eno on our tricky second series.”

Channel 4’s Comedy Commissioning Editor, Rachel Springett, who ordered the second series, said: “We are thrilled to have commissioned a second series of the multi award winning sketch show Cardinal Burns. We are delighted to bring to Channel 4 the likes of Banksy and The Office Flirt with a host of new brilliantly crafted and original characters including airline pilots Malcolm and Geoff and rapper Curtis Blow.”

Jenna Jones, Executive Producer for production company Left Bank Pictures, added: “I am thrilled that Cardinal Burns is returning for a second series, and excited that it will be launching on Channel 4. This bold re-commission is testament to Channel 4’s commitment to original talent and their ambition to bring Seb and Dustin’s unique comic brilliance to a wider audience.”
